Porter's reprise

Happiest I've been in so long. Back at Porter's with my girls and former students-turned-friends. Love it!

feng shui fun day :)

So, on more or less of a spur of the moment idea, I decided to feng shui my room. Which meant a little jaunt to Home Goods, now my new favorite place on the planet. My lovely roommate, Mads, helped me spend my money.

Lots of good finds! Including a new bedspread, pillows, bedside table, wall decor, etc. Of course I had to sweep the floor in my room (much overdue) first. That was less than enjoyable, but at least I only came across one dead insect! Now the room is more open and spacious, and now I want to go all out and put more fun things in it!

making some changes

In an attempt to be a better me :)
I'm going to find fulfillment and success in whatever I do. I will be the best me I can be. I will put my best foot forward and prove myself. It took a harsh reality for me to start this, but this is good for me. And then I will try to start over and, as Tim Gunn would say, "make it work!" Looking forward to presenting the new me in hopefully a month!

hiatus hangover

Apologies to whoever actually reads this blog for going on hiatus for almost a month. I've been working with some friends over at Tell Me I'm Wrong, but I shouldn't have neglected the bizarro blog project on my end. Nothing much is new, just a lot of:

reading (These Girls, The Little Women Letters, etc.) and

working out (I'm trying to look like a superhero, apparently) and

online shopping (which is probably unhealthy except for the fact that I'm buying from Amazon and GNC, so I make get a reprieve from the gods of frugal spending)

and that's all I've gotta say about that...

What's coming up on my To Read list:

Fourth Fete

Red, white, and blue all around.
Eating pulled pork, ribs, mashed sweet potatoes, and cole slaw.
Lots of hard cider and beer.
Kara found a sequin red hat.
Then we ate burgers for dinner.
Watched Independence Day
And after a day of partying, I went to bed at 10:00 p.m.

I have no idea why I put that in a quasi-poem format....

my version

If I could rename the books I'm editing, I would title them as follows:

Currently: Brigham Young: A Concise Biography of the Mormon Moses

Title the Linds would choose: 55 Wives and Counting

Currently: Implosion: The End of Russia and What It Means for America

Title the Linds would choose: Rootin' Tootin' Putin

Currently: The Little Green Book of Eco-Fascism
Title the Linds would choose: Mocking Tree-Huggers and PETA

a cup of inspiration

Can you help me? I'm in the market for a nice, steaming hot cup of inspiration.

So I'm writing this book, and I'm trying to come up with witty and creative segments to write about, but SOMETIMES I hit this roadblock, or writer's block, as one is wont to call it. See Blackberry Wine, the current book I'm reading by the fantastic Joanne Harris.

Where do you find your inspiration, and how can I come about acquiring some?

xoxo,
Linds

If mice can make a dress, surely I can make a book take shape?

'scuse the hiatus

Sorry about that little break from blogging! I have been working on my book; I have about 40,000 words so far a.k.a. about half of a typical-sized novel. It's mainly about my life, but I wouldn't call it memoirs; that sounds too formal. And my writing is most definitely NOT formal. Anyways, I also just got back from Disney with the fam! Epic times, I tell you. Ate a lot, ogled the new Fantasyland architecture a lot. Had so much fun! Now for the pics:

Me and Loren on the boat!

EEP!
Where I wish I lived sometimes...

Prince Eric's castle; a new addition to the park

The Beast's castle; also new to the park

Rapunzel's tower; you guessed it--also new

The fam!

a way with words

It may come to you as a surprise that I, Linds, who works in publishing, doesn't have a way with words 24/7. Actually, I may not have a way with words in general. I make a valiant effort for the most part, but sometimes the words coming out of my mouth are more akin to babble, rambling, and--occasionally--sheer nonsense. Without a doubt, this can lead to miscommunication, mild to severe, depending on occasion. I'm also exceptionally bad with taking criticism or taking retort that I misconstrue as criticism. Sometimes it's a no-win situation; people who deal with me are saints. Truly. Well, sometimes. Ehh, now I'm on the verge of rambling again.
Anyways, the point is that the art of having a conversation and not flipping your lid isn't easy, but taking a breath and managing--as best you can--your way with words can really manage potentially volatile situations. It's a lesson in patience and NOT overreacting for me today, so if you're anything like me, stop and count to three before your metaphorical communications degree (B.A. for badass) turns into a temporary miscommunications degree (B.S.--science people don't take offense to this one, I just needed an example--for bullshit).

lucky duck

That's me. Or, at least, that's how I feel. As I'm sitting on the floor by gate B12, in an airport, one of my least favorite places to be, not to mention the fact I'm on my way to Sin City, I'm contemplating life as we know it. Whilst amid stress in the workplace and general life drama, I'm still blissfully happy because I have the most incredible man in my life. He can turn my frown upside down, and I can't put into words how much he means to me. Cloud  9 has me as a VIP member, and I can't wait to be lucky enough to fall in love with my best friend.

Yes I just referenced a Colbie song. I'm disgusted with myself too. But it works.

last day...

...of being 22. Cue the Taylor Swift song. Tomorrow is my golden birthday. Most people don't put stock into golden birthdays, but I've been excited for mine for years now. To be 23 on May 23rd...which will be heralded and lauded in full on Friday after work...when I fly to Vegas for a whirlwind weekend with my best friends!

kill shot!

If you haven't seen Date Night with Steve Carell and Tina Fey, then you don't know the scene I'm referencing. If you have, GREAT. I'm so frustrated out of my mind with one of the books I'm editing, that I'm going to strangle the writer. Or render death via blowdart. Or crossbow. Or via medieval torture device. (The rack, anyone? I'm sure the Tower of London will have one I can borrow...)

I'mma lose ma mindddd y'all!

two tempting words

At least for me, the two greatest and potentially dangerous (for my wallet, that is) words in the English language, if applied together, are:

BOOK SALE

monday fun-day

Why fun? Well there are desserts everywhere today. When I mean everywhere, I mean in the two company kitchens. Idk who brought in the Oreo cake, but it's been tempting me all morning. Then my boss told me there was a chocolate ganache tarte (yes, I'm using the French version) in the other kitchen. It took me approximately 2.5 seconds to get my pink-pantaloned self out of my chair to go stalk this tarte. I'm eating it right now. But I had a salad. So all the calories cancel out, right? Idk which one I look like more, the brunette chick or the blonde baby covered in chocolate. It's basically like I'm as sweets-obsessed as Augustus Gloop in either movie version or, God-willing, the original (aka BOOK) of that delectable chocolate factory.

Except...ya know...I'm not morbidly obese. So there's THAT.

the grunt work

We all have had to put our two cents into the grunt work machine at one point or another. For us in the publishing business, there are various areas in which said grunt work must occur. Luckily for the editorial department where I work, we'll be receiving two bright-eyed, chipper INTERNS.

SO EXCITED

I mean, we've all been there. I was once a poor, unsuspecting, unpaid intern myself. But thank God those days are over :-D

I'm thrilled. Why? They get to partake in the world of indexing. Such thrilling adventurous times for the slave labor interns to learn.

COMING SOON TO A PUBLISHING COMPANY NEAR YOU!
